Practical control of life-threatening bleeding using direct pressure, wound packing and tourniquets.

CertificationOfficial American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed course completion.

About this course

Stop the Bleed is the American College of Surgeons' public bleeding-control programme. It teaches the three actions that save a life from severe haemorrhage - direct pressure, wound packing and tourniquet application - to people with no medical background.

It is deliberately short and hands-on. Everyone leaves having actually packed a wound and applied a tourniquet under time pressure. It is ideal for a whole workforce, a school, a security team or a community group.

What you will cover

  • Recognising life-threatening bleeding
  • Ensuring your own safety and calling for help
  • Direct and firm pressure
  • Wound packing for compressible haemorrhage
  • Correct tourniquet application and reassessment
  • Bleeding-control kits and where to place them

Who it is for

  • Individuals & families
  • Workplace & corporate
  • First responders & medics
